International Chess Day - 2020

The International Chess Day is celebrated annually on July 20, the day the International Chess Federation (FIDE) was founded, in 1924.

Tomorrow sees many events celebrating International Chess Day – mostly held online via social media platforms due to Covid-19. One stand-out is an online event organized by the United Nations called “Chess for Recovering Better.”

Following a keynote address by the U.N. Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications, Melissa Fleming, FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich, GM Viswanathan Anand, GM Vladimir Kramnik, GM Levon Aronian, and GM Hou Yifan will take part in a panel discussion that will include participation by U.N. delegations and other stakeholders.
