Olympiad: Australia's teams have made an impressive start to the Olympiad in Turin, Italy. After three rounds, the open team is in 40th place with 7.5/12, while our women's team is coming 28th with 6/9 - both well above their initial rankings. Australia (Rogers, Smerdon, Zhao, Lane, Wohl, Speck) average 2479 is seeded 50th. In the women's, Australia (Berezina, Moylan, Caoili, Phan-Koshnitsky) average 2210 is seeded 37th.

Open: Smerdon, Lane, Wohl and Speck smashed Macau 4-0 in round 1. We had an excellent second-round result, crushing the all-grandmaster
Romanian team (seeded 15th). Our team lost 0.5-3.5 to the powerful Uzbekistan team in round 3, but IM David Smerdon had the pleasure of holding former FIDE world knockout champion Kasimdzhanov to a draw.
