If at the time the election is due to be held there are no candidates for President, Deputy President, Secretary or Treasurer, the matter shall be referred to the Council and the Council shall have power to take whatever action it deems necessary to fill the vacancy until the next election is due to be held (10.o.iv.). JASON LYONS TO BE INTERVIEWED ON THE ALAN JONES SHOW Jason will be interviewed at 7am on Monday 23 September regarding the Olympiad. GOLD COAST CLASSIC The Gold Coast Classic has been won by IM David Smerdon on 6.5/7. In the final three rounds David disposed of IM Laszlo Hazai and GM Ian Rogers and came very close to defeating GM Heikki Kallio. In a speed finish (10 sec increments), both players declined draw offers in a fitting finale to a first class tournament. Kallio did not lose a game, but did not figure in the prize money with IMs Stephen Solomon and Zong Yuan Zhao taking out second equal. Ian Rogers also missed out on the prize money. 98 players participated. The teams event, which was incorporated within the tournament, was hotly contested, particularly by the juniors with the team comprising Stephen Kinder, Jessica Kinder, Danielle Kinder and James Roberts taking out the $400 first prize.
