From: "Graeme Gardiner" To: "Graeme Gardiner" Subject: ACF Bulletin # 144 - 9 December 2001 Date: Sunday, December 09, 2001 10:18 ACF Bulletin # 144 - 9 December 2001 IN THIS ISSUE Australian Junior Championships, Nellie Edwards Bequest, Australian Championships, Organisers of FIDE rated events, Ian Rogers wins European Masters, 2001 Grand Prix, Fairfield RSL Summer Cup, 2002 Grand Prix, Results of Tuggeranong Vikings weekender, CAQ AGM. AUSTRALIAN JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS - BROCHURES If anyone has not yet received a brochure on the forthcoming Australian Junior Championships (to be held in Sydney, 12-24 January 2002) and needs one, please contact Richard Gastineau-Hills, phone (02) 9412 4579, email RichardGH@bigpond.com, supplying your postal address and indicating the number of brochures required. Note, however, that if you have internet access you should not need a brochure as the NSWJCL's webpage www.auschess.org.au/nswjcl/nswjcl.htm contains all the information that is in the printed brochure (and more!) - including a downloadable entry form. Please note carefully the dates for "early-bird" entry fee discounts (by Monday 17 December) and late entry penalties (after Monday 7 January). If you require accommodation at the venue (Cranbrook School) this must be booked by Friday 14 December. NELLIE EDWARDS BEQUEST This bequest was made some thirty or more years ago to the NSW Chess Association to benefit young players. The remaining balance (not a large amount) was recently handed over to the NSW Junior Chess League to administer. The NSWJCL is anxious to find out the original terms of the bequest to ensure that these are met in future distributions. If anyone with a long memory (or the ability to research old bequests) is able to furnish details of this bequest please contact the NSWJCL Treasurer, Richard Gastineau-Hills, phone (02) 9412 4579, email RichardGH@bigpond.com. AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS It has been pointed out to me that I was incorrect in congratulating "Gary Wastell and his team" in relation to the upcoming Australian Championships. I should, in fact, have congratulated Richard McCart and his Melbourne Chess Club organising team. It is probably a good idea to name the organising team here and now since, in my opinion, organisers often do not receive the credit they deserve. It is a simple fact that if we had more organisers, we would have more chess in this country. The Melbourne Festival of Chess Organising Committee is Chairman Richard McCart, Secretary Pauline Jaksa, Treasurer Edwin Malitis, Special Events Albert Cymons, Publicity Alex Kaplan, VCA/ACF Liaison Gary Wastell, Committee Member Greg Gatto. Others assisting the organising committee are Robert Adams, Andrew Ballam, Ronnie Bauer, Gary Bekker, Kate Bethune, David Cordover, Libby Doherty, Kellie Field, Malcolm Pyke, Rochis Opals. The Tournament Director is Edwin Malitis and Arbiters Gary Bekker, John Frew, Andrew Leroy, Edwin Malitis, Frank Meerbach, Malcolm Pyke, Trevor Stanning, Stephan Taylor, Charles Zworestine. Congratulations to everyone involved. The festival deserves to be a big success.
