SPONSOR FOR DGT SETS AND
CLOCKS
I'm pleased to advise that QUT (Queensland
University of Technology) will be sponsoring the purchase of 10 DGT Sets/Timers
valued at $8,000 by the ACF.
This sponsorship has been arranged through an
active Brisbane chess player, Dr Vinod Chandran, Senior
Lecturer at the School of Electrical and Electronic Systems Engineering, QUT.
Vinod is the Qld branch President of the Australian Pattern Recognition Society.
The sponsorship has been approved by the Vice Chancellor and will be paid
shortly. QUT will be looking at this as an opportunity to promote their courses
to high-school students who observe the games.
The sets/clocks are being purchased at trade prices
from the Australian distributor, Brian Jones.
The ACF has agreed to the following terms in
return:
The QUT banner will be displayed on each board when
it appears on the screen.
Each physical board can have a small QUT
banner/message attached.
The ACF webpage will have the QUT banner displayed
prominently for a period of two years.
The ACF feels that it would be in the best
interests of all involved if these 10 DGT Sets/Timers were to be distributed
around the states and kept by keen, reliable, technically experienced people.
These sets would be used for transmitting important local games live to the ACF
webpage/Australasian Chess Online. It would be a good way for bringing all those
involved in Australian chess a little closer together.
Occasionally, the 10 boards would be brought
together for major events such as the Australian Championships etc. Under these
circumstances care will need to be taken in packaging and despatch.
