ASK NOT WHAT CHESS CAN DO FOR
YOU, ASK WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR CHESS
Here are a few practical ideas on what you can do
for chess if you are so
inclined.
Write letters to the Sports Minister, Jacky
Kelly and the Shadow
Sports
Minister, Senator Kate Lundy, asking them to make it their
party policy at
the next election to bring in legislation forcing the
Australian Sports
Commission to recognise chess as a sport just like many
other nations around
the world. It would probably be more effective if each
person doing this
could develop their own arguments so that Kelly and Lundy
do not receive a
whole lot of letters that are virtually identical . They can
be written to at
Parliament House, Canberra, ACT 2601 or by email Jackie
Kelly
Jackie.Kelly.MP@aph.gov.au
Kate Lundy senator.lundy@aph.gov.au. I would
appreciate receiving a copy if you feel it is
appropriate.
Join up with Australasian Chess
Online when it comes on shortly. There will
be a free trial
period.
Run a tournament - preferably a mass participation
event. Maybe get a
shopping centre to sponsor it. Use Swiss Perfect to
administer it.
Join up your weekend event with the Grand
Prix.
Regularly put out media releases to your local
media. If you have a
particularly interesting story, let the ACF Publicity
Officer Ashley
Rambukwella arambuk@ozemail.com.au know about
it.
Start a local schools competition in your
area.
Create chess activity.
If it is within your means, make a donation or
leave a bequest to the
Australian Chess Federation.
Get your club to join the ACF insurance
policy.
Contact the ACF for a free Swiss Perfect licence
for your club.

AROUND AUSTRALIA
TRIP
I have booked my around Australia trip this year to
coincide with my son's
wedding in Perth. I regret that due to timing and cost
factors I will miss
out on Tasmania, ACT and Northern Territory this year. I
will be in Sydney
on 25/26 September, Perth from 27 September to 3 October,
Adelaide on 4/5
October and Melbourne on 6/7 October.
With very best wishes to all.
