WEBPAGE
PAUL
BROEKHUYSE has being doing a fantastic job on the webpage which is being
reflected in a greatly increased number of hits. His latest innovation is an
interstate teams internet match along the lines of the Kasparov v Rest of the
World internet match. Team moves will be voted upon. Visit the ACF webpage at
www.auschess.org.au to register for your state or
territory.
Another interesting part of the site is the bulletin board
where a series of interesting discussions take place. In recent days there have
been interesting debates on the new FIDE time controls and the statistical side
of the ratings system.
Amongst a host of other information are the weekly
chess columns of IAN ROGERS, PETER PARR and IAN MURRAY and a new 'Games Galore'
section.
Watch this space for more developments in the coming
weeks.

CORPORATE
SPONSORSHIP
Former ACF President PETER
WALLMAN has kindly taken on the task of Corporate Relations. This is not an easy
job. In fact it is very challenging. Australian chess has never had a major
national sponsor. Whilst Cepacol and Mercantile Mutual did a good job
specifically on the Grand Prix for a few years, Peter will be endeavouring to
build a relationship with big business covering the whole of Australian
chess.
Whilst Peter has several very high level contacts in the Sydney
corporate sector, he would very much appreciate the names of any chess players
(especially in Sydney) who move in high level corporate circles. Please contact
Peter at peter.wallman@springglobal.com or myself at ggardiner@somerset.qld.edu.au
NEWS FROM SOUTH AUSTRALIA -
GEORGE HOWARD
JOSEPH TANTI is the new
Secretary of SAJCL having taken the place of EVELYN KOSHNITSKY who has retired.
Evelyn was nominated as the SAJCL patron and she gracefully accepted. Joe has
indeed big shoes to fill. ALAN GOLDSMITH was re-elected as President of
SAJCL.
2001 GRAND
PRIX
Please note once again that the new
Grand Prix Supervisor is NORM BRAYBROOKE <chessnut@windsor.net.au>. I'm
sure that he would love to hear about new events. Norm's webpage is at:
http://crcchess.topcities.com/GP2001.htm. We continue to appeal to chess
organisers in Victoria and WA to give players in those states the opportunity to
earn Grand Prix points.
The three upcoming events are the three Easter
weekenders: Doeberl Cup (Canberra), Sydney Easter Cup and the Darling Downs Open
(Toowoomba).

$10,000,000 PUBLIC LIABILITY INSURANCE
FOR YOUR CLUB OR STATE?
Did you know that
if your club has less then 50 members, you can join the ACF policy for just $121
per annum? This is ridiculously inexpensive. Any club that does not have
insurance is crazy and any club that is paying more than $121 is crazy! Any club
that only has (say) $2,000,000 public liability insurance is probably under
insured!
To take advantage of this special offer, all you need to do is
email NORM GREENWOOD <normg@bigpond.com.au> with the following details:
Name of club, number of current members, main meeting venue (if any),
incorporated or unincorporated, any previous liability incidents, contact
name/address/phone/fax/email, interested parties to be noted on policy (if
any).
You will then be contacted directly by the insurer, CHRIS ZUCCALA,
who will advise you of the pro-rata premium to pay to the common renewal date
(31 August).
If you wish to contact Chris Zuccala direct please do so on
email <vicwide@hotmail.com> or phone 03 9569 1569 or fax 03 9569
1515.
Very best wishes to all.
