ACF Bulletin No. 15 - 2 May 1999

ASIAN UNDER 16 CHAMPIONSHIPS IN UZBEKISTAN

I've heard from Craig Rose in Namagan, Uzbekistan.

Apparently the food, accommodation and currency exchange are excellent. 18
boys and 12 girls are competing. They are receiving VIP treatment. They
have their own private sponsor with a car and driver at their disposal.
Their photo has been in the newspaper and they've been interviewed for TV.
They have have been making a video to take home. The opening ceremony was
magnificent and security has been very high.

After 3 rounds Allinta is on 2.5/3 and Rhys 1/3. Allinta drew with the girl
from Vietnam on board one in round 3. Here are a couple of their games.

ZONAL

Suprisingly, I've received very little correspondence on the zonal. Peter
Parr has expressed concern about some aspects of the zonal and, as a
consequence, I have invited him to email me his comments and have offered
to publish them unedited in this bulletin. I feel this is the best way to
get some constructive debate going. Zonal champions Vladimir Feldman and
Laura Moylan have formally accepted and will be representing the Oceanic
region in the upcoming world championships in Las Vegas and Moldova
respectively.

BRITISH CHESS CHAMPIONSHIPS, 1-14 August 1999, Scarborough

The championship itself is a closed event. However, each Commonwealth
country has the right to nominate any player as a representative for the
Championship provided that they have a FIDE rating of 2200 or above. Other
championships are held for junior and senior players. Anyone interested,
please let me know.

WORLD JUNIOR SELECTIONS

Manuel Weeks and his committee are working on selections for the World
Juniors later this year. Mona Lee has kindly offered to help with the
administrative side of organising the trip to Spain.

That's all for now.

Have a good week.
